I have been asked by multiple people "What is the point of couture, no one can afford it and where would you wear it even if you could?" Part of that answer is awards season. Not every gown we see is couture and there is some couture that can't even be worn there but it is safe to bet that there will be at least one couture look at every major awards show. This is where designers get free publicity to the masses. Even those not particularly interested in fashion. Because of this they are more than ready to allow the celebrities, even some from the B list, borrow their fantastic creations for the night. Here are the ones I chose as the best last night but there was one who blew them all out of the park. Can you guess who that was?
Glenn Close in Zac Posen
I love the matching blazers over the gowns!Jessica Chastain
I always love a good McQueen Louise Roe in Black Halo
Some were disappointed by this Givenchy Gown. It was also said that it did not fit correctly but I think it looks much better on her than it did on the runway!
CORAL Luis Vuitton
Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab Couture
Stacy Keibler in Marchesa
Shailene Woodley also got criticized for the fit of this Versace dress, which is a little odd as well as it not being age appropriate. However, I do love this dress and I am a sucker for a long sleeve gown at the moment so I this she made an acceptable choice.
Standing in this pose all night must have been exhausting. She did make sure she gave this Valentino justice.
The Best Dressed of the Night. Do you Agree?
Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford heaven
The cape made this look a jaw dropper. However, it stands pretty well on its own with its simple silhouette and shoulder pads. Now for the worst of the worst. I apologize for subjecting you to this for the second time. I have kept this list as short as I could.
This is an all around disaster. Her stylist also spilled that she helped design it. Melissa McCarthey should really stick to acting.
Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani. She looks like she is going to prom or maybe an audition for a very boring Cinderella.
Natalie Portman in a boringly sweet, polka-dot, vintage Christian Dior that did not fit her correctly in the bust.
Missi Pyle in Valenita Delfino
I cannot describe my distaste for this gown exactly other than to say it just rubs me the wrong way. The color is nice but there is just something about the silhouette that ruins it for me.
